Assessing a knowledge base

During a knowledge management project, the initial study and audit phase includes a quality analysis of the knowledge base.

The knowledge bases established on behalf of clients respond to multiple concerns such as

  • Capitalising: not losing and preserving at best,
  • Passing on: continuing or taking over an activity,
  • Deciding: knowing the justifications, the Rexes, the previous choices...,
  • Anticipating: establishing acquisition strategies to go further.

This is more generally known as an "Accumulation Product". How can the quality of a capitalisation product be guaranteed? What are the essential components of a knowledge base? Which cartographic approach?

To answer these questions, Ardans has designed the KBScope, initially based on a cartographic analysis software, a lighter version of which is integrated into the Ardans Knowledge Maker platform. From a pre-selection of records, a representation of the record to record network (neighbouring records) and the record to referencing item network (point of view) is possible to analyse the quality of the database.

Through these representations and the associated analysis methods, the problems of coherence and completeness of knowledge bases will be identified.
